Oceans Sleep Privacy Policy

Oceans Sleep is an app made by MERVS PTY LTD (ABN 13 651 942 942), 17 Central Street, Labrador QLD 4215, Australia. This policy covers the Oceans Sleep app only. Our online store has its own privacy policy.

The short version: your sleep information stays on your phone. There's no account and no ads. If you use Oceans Sleep Pro, the details needed for a reading are sent to create it and aren't kept by us.

What the app uses, and why

  • Microphone: while sleep tracking is running, to measure sound levels and detect snoring. Sound is analysed on your phone as it happens and isn't sent to us.
  • Motion sensors: while sleep tracking is running, to notice movement and restlessness.
  • Approximate location: once when the app opens, to show tonight's sunset and tomorrow's sunrise. It isn't stored or sent anywhere.
  • Notifications and alarms: to run your wake alarm and show that tracking is active.
  • An anonymous app ID: a random ID created the first time you use a Pro feature (through Google Firebase). It has no name, email or phone number attached. We use it only to limit how many readings can be made each day.
  • Pro dream reflections and weekly reports: when you tap for a reading, the dream notes, morning check-in, that day's log and the sleep figures for the night (or the week, for the weekly report) are sent over an encrypted connection to our server. It passes them to our AI provider, Anthropic, to write the reading, and sends the reading back to your phone. Our server doesn't keep your dream text or sleep data. Anthropic deletes it automatically within 30 days, unless it's flagged for misuse of their service or the law requires it to be kept longer. Nothing is used to advertise to you.
  • Crash reports and app usage statistics: anonymous information about crashes and which screens are used (Google Firebase), to help us fix problems. It doesn't include your sleep data or dreams.
  • Purchases: if you subscribe to Pro, Google Play handles payment. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active, never your card details.

What is stored, and where

Your sleep records, scores, daily logs, morning check-ins, dream notes, readings and settings are saved in the app on your phone. We don't keep copies. If your phone's own backup (Google or iCloud) is turned on, it may include the app's data, under your account with them.

Sharing: we don't sell your information or use it for advertising. The only services involved are Google (Firebase and Google Play) and Anthropic (for Pro readings), each acting for us under their own privacy terms. The app has no ads.

Deleting your data: delete any night's record inside the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything it stored.

Children: Oceans Sleep isn't designed for children under 13.

Changes: if the app starts handling data differently, we'll update this page and the date above before that version is released.
